Sunday, April 15, 2018 - The Second Coming of Christ!
Pastor Roger Marcos
April 15, 2018
The Savior’s first coming was in humiliation.. ..which include His death- but the second advent WILL BE GLORIOUS AND VICTORIOUS!
Ever since He ascended to the Father ALMOST two thousand years ago, people have awaited His return. Read Acts 1:9-11. The fact of His return is certain. It is referenced almost three hundred times in the New Testament. Let us turn to the Bible and it alone to learn about that great event.
The Second Coming of Christ is the blessed hope, it is an event of promise. The clarion call of Scripture is that we live in anticipation and preparation for that great day... might be the last miracle to be done by the Lord Jesus.
Let me just say that we need to live in the light of His coming, Titus 2:13. It is hope for the believer and it is damnation for the unbeliever.
So, it is important that we have some understanding of the events that will surround His return.
Jesus went away with the promise that He would come again, John 14:3; Acts 1:9-11. If He is coming again, and He is, then we need to be ready for that coming and we need to know what will take place, so that we can warn a lost world to prepare.
I want to preach on The Second Coming of Christ today.
Text: I Thessalonians 5:1-11 The Day of the Lord
1 Now, brothers and sisters, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, 2 for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. 3 While people are saying, “Peace and safety,” destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.
4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. 5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. 6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. 8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 9 For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 10 He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
There Are Nine Terms In Bible Prophecy:
As a believer we need to familiarize the key term in order to be disappointed when He comes.
- The Second Coming. Is the Lord, return to the earth at an unknown time in the future. Jn. 14:3 I WILL COME BACK AND TAKE YOU TO BE WITH ME THAT YOU ALSO MAYBE WHERE I AM.
- The Rapture. Is the sudden departure of all Christians to meet Christ in the air! 1 Thess. 4:16-17
- The Millennium. Refers to a period of time in which Christ reign on earth in righteousness. Rev. 20:1-10.
- The Great Tribulation. Is a period of intense, unprecedented suffering Mark 13:19!
- The Antichrist. Embodies evil and is the key agent of Satan’s resistance to the plan of God in the last days. 1JN. 2:18-22
- The Judgment Seat of Christ. Is the place where all Christians will receive their reward for the quality of their life on earth! 2 Cor. 5:10
- The Great White Throne Judgment. Is the place where all who have rejected God receive punishment for their unbelief and their life on earth! Rev. 20:11-15
- Heaven. Is the ultimate destination of all people who truly believed in God and committed their lives to Him! Acts1:9
- Hell. Is the ultimate destination of all people who did not truly believe in God and commit their lives to Him! Matt. 10:28
The Question I have...Is Needs to Be answered In order to avoid regret WHEN JESUS COME.
I. How Will Jesus Return? - With all the messages I preached to the church is a good preparation to ourselves for the unexpected coming of Christ. The Bible filled of promises in this life and the life to come...life eternity.
What Does the Future Hold?
The only way to wait for the second coming is to WATCH that you Do, So that when He comes it is a MATTER of INDIFFERENCE Oswald Chamber
A. Personally Presence (Parousia). I Thessalonians 4:16 “For the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God . . .” He will come in person.
Acts 1:10-11-
B. Visibly. Revelation 1:7 “Behold, He is coming with clouds and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him . . .” Many verses inform readers that Christ will appear or be revealed. There is no invisible rapture.
II. When Will Jesus Return? No date, no one knows. This is secret to anyone...Only the Lord Knows. Matthew 24:36-39.
A. Unexpectedly and Without Warning. I Thessalonians 5:2-3 “For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night . . “ There will be no signs.
B. Parable of the Wise and Foolish Virgins. Matthew 25:13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.”
C. In Replying to the Disciples’ Question about the End of the Age,
Christ replies: “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.” Matthew 24:36 “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.” (Verse 42) “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Verse 44)
What is Important is to Watch and Be Ready at all Times.
III. What Will Happen When He Comes? God’s Word informs us that several events will occur when He comes on the last day, the day of the Lord.
A. All the Dead Will Hear Jesus’ Voice and Be Raised. John 5:28-29
28 “Do not be amazed at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice 29 and come out-those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.
B. Death and Hades Will Be Destroyed. Revelation 20:13-14
13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.
I Corinthians 15:25-26: “For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.” 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. NIV
C. All the Living will Be Changed. .” I Corinthians 15:51-52
51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed- 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
D. The righteous who are alive and those who are resurrected will meet Jesus in the air. I Thes. 4:16-17
16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.
E. Jesus Will Sit on His Throne and Judge all of Humanity. Mat. 25:31-33
The Final Judgment
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33 And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left.
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. 2 Cor. 5:10
Conclusion:
Christ’s second coming will end time as we know it and usher in eternity.
Invitation:
Those Who Are Ready When He Returns. II Timothy 4:8
8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day-and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
Those who do not obey Him in this life will suffer vengeance at the hand of Christ, Himself.
