Vision Statement: NYCC Is A Church the Cares and Reaches the Lost!

Does Your Hearts Beat For Jesus? David Plat

The church is designed to help.. you know what type of NYCC we are and what type of church we want to become?

MAY OUR PASSION FOR CHRIST ALWAYS BE GREATER THAN OUR PASSION FOR AN EASY LIFE. Burk Parsons

I just want to be the type of church where people know that they belong, that they are a part of the group, and that they are loved and Cared for.

This is an important facet in being the church as God has designed it, but the church is more than just a place to belong - the church is also a place where we receive instruction for life. The Bible-Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.

TEXT: Spend your time and energy in training yourself for spiritual fitness. Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is much more important, for it promises a reward in both this life and the next. - 1 Timothy 4:7-8

At the same time the church is responsible to provide a place for you to grow.

(Jesus) is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ, until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God's Son that we will be mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature of Christ. - Ephesians 4:11-13

The responsibility of the leadership of this church is to make sure we are equipping our members to work for the kingdom of God..

So if you take your responsibility to learn seriously, and the leaders of the church take their responsibility to equip seriously, we will have the kind of church that does discipleship the way that God has designed it, and we will all benefit from that.

So What Kind of Place Is NYCC Right Now In Years to Come

1. A PLACE TO GROW. My desire is that this church be the kind of place where you know that you can come and experience the type of growth that you need whether you are a brand new believer or have been a Christian for years.

Grow what you go through====

Let your roots grow down into him and draw up nourishment from him, so you will grow in faith, strong and vigorous in the truth you were taught. Let your lives overflow with thanksgiving for all he has done. - Colossians 2:7

There Are three Specific Areas of growth to Consider:

  IN KNOWLEDGE

The more that I know about God, the more I love God, and the more dedicated to God I become.

It is being able to answer questions like, Who is God? What is He like? Where did the Bible come from? Who wrote the books of the Bible? Who is Jesus? Who is the Holy Spirit? What does the Holy Spirit do? What is Heaven and Hell? How can I be in a right relationship with God? What is the function of the Church? And many, many, more that are foundational to our understanding.

Our job as the church is to make sure these facts are being taught, from the pulpit, Sunday School, small groups, and through other outlets.

- In other words, it is the church leadership’s job to make sure you have the opportunity to learn, it is your individual responsibility to make sure you take advantage of the opportunities that are offered.

-So if you come to me and say, “This church just isn’t feeding me,” and I ask you, “Are you involved in Sunday School? Do you take notes during the sermon? Are you listening to what is being said and studying the Bible on your own?” If you can answer “Yes, I’m doing all those things” then it is the church’s problem, but if you answer “No, I’m not doing those things” it is your problem.

New International Version

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

New Living Translation

Fear of the LORD is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.

  IN CHARACTER.

If you don’t dislike someone dislike them alone, don’t recruit others to join your cause. Toby Mckeehan

What we want to do is show you that what God has to say is relevant, and that if you follow His direction you will grow in character as well as knowledge.

Knowing God leads to self-control. Self-control leads to patient endurance, and patient endurance leads to godliness. Godliness leads to love for other Christians, and finally you will grow to have genuine love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more you will become productive and useful in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. - 2 Peter 1:6-8

You see, there is a goal to all of this - we want to help you become a productive person, one that knows Jesus Christ and is becoming like Jesus Christ.

This happens when you take what you have learned and ask the question, “What do I need to change in my life as a result of what I’ve learned?”

  IN RELATIONSHIP

An increase of knowledge in the things of God properly applied leads to a change of character wherein we become more like God.

The more we become like God in the way we think, the way we feel, and the way we act and react to life’s circumstances, the closer to God we become.

Those who know your name trust in you, for you, O LORD, have never abandoned anyone who searches for you. - Psalms 9:10

I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. - Psalms 16:8

We want to help you grow in your relationship with God at NYCC.

2. A PLACE TO GATHER.

This church is not a building, the building is simply where we have a place to do the works of ministry and gather together.

It is important that we continually instruct each other in the importance of frequently meeting together.

Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage and warn each other, especially now that the day of his coming back again is drawing near. - Hebrews 10:25

- I believe there are three basic reasons we need to meet together on a regular basis and I want to give them to you rather quickly.

  FOR WORSHIP.

I know that you can worship on your own, and I hope that you do, but nothing can take the place of coming together as the body of Christ and worshipping together.

We come together to pray, to sing, to glorify the name of God, not just as individuals, but as the corporate body of Christ.

  FOR FELLOWSHIP

To help each other in our Christian walk, we need to know each other.

We come together in our Sunday School classes, in small groups, in corporate assemblies, potluck dinners and many other circumstances just because we like to spend time with each other.

I am planning to go to Spain, and when I do, I will stop off in Rome. And after I have enjoyed your fellowship for a little while, you can send me on my way again. - Romans 15:24

- The time that we have together is a precious commodity - it is a time to simply enjoy each-others company - this is the place where that can happen.

  FOR STRENGTH.

Some times you are going to be the strong one that is able to help others out, to be an encouragement to them, to let them know that you care.

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. 1thes. 5:11

But there are going to be other times in your life when you find you are the one in need - we are here to give you strength when you feel week.

When God's children are in need, be the one to help them out. - Romans 12:13

We gather together to give each other strength through life’s journey.

We are here for each other, to hold each other up, and to point the way to victory.

Hebrews 6:10God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.

Conclusion:

We are living in an age when many of the fundamental areas of instruction are being forgotten by many.

- I thank God that we can do this together.
